Every single reader of my blog and their mother probably already knows about my obsession with Bioderma Micellar Solution (review here), so when bloggers started talking about a new possible dupe - L'Oreal Micellar Solution - I had to run to the store to pick one up and try it. So, is it really a dupe?
No. It is not. Despite some people claiming that it is exactly the same, it just cannot be compared to Bioderma. At least not in my book. Having said that, it is a pretty good cheaper alternative for those of you that don't want to spend a lot of money on a micellar solution. If I'm not mistaken, the 250ml Bioderma in my country costs about 12€, while the 250 ml L'Oreal one costs about 4€. Before I continue with the review or shall I say comparison, I think I should first clear some things up for those of you who are not really familiar with micellar solutions. In short, micellar solutions are water-like products that are supposed to remove make-up, cleanse your skin, and maintain skin's pH balance. They do not have to be rinsed off and are known for being perfect products for sensitive skin.
Now you probably all want to know how good the L'Oreal Micellar Solution is compared to the Bioderma one... Technically, they both do their job, but the L'Oreal one has a few annoying characteristics. The first one is the opening where the product comes out. The opening is way too big. The solution pours out like nobody's bussiness and leaves a cotton pad completely soaked up, which is just unnecessary. I've used this solution about four times to remove my make-up and a third of it is already gone. When it comes to Bioderma, that same amount lasts me ages!
Another thing is that you have to use up way more L'Oreal's solution than Bioderma's to remove the same amount of make-up, despite the excess of product in the first place. When I was removing my make-up a few weeks ago, I cleaned half of my face with Bioderma and half of my face with L'Oreal. With Bioderma, I needed to do two rounds like always - with the first soaked cotton pad I removed my full face make-up, and then went over the skin again to make sure I removed every bit of it. At this point, my face was completely clear of all make-up. When I went through with another soaked cotton pad, there were absolutely no traces of any dirt. But when I used the L'Oreal's solution, I had to use up four soaked pads before my make-up was completely removed, which is twice as much. And besides that, I also had to to do a lot of rubbing off, because my make-up didn't come off as easily, with swiping only, as it does with Bioderma.
And lastly, I also experienced irritation every single time I was removing my eye make-up with the L'Oreal solution. My eyes start to sting whenever I get this product close to them, so from now on, I'll stay loyal to my Bioderma solution and keep using the L'Oreal one for spot cleaning my brushes instead. It works pretty good for that!
How many of you have tried this product or maybe both of them? Are you team Bioderma or team L'Oreal?
