Sandra Reads: The Fault in Our Stars
Sandra
One of my new year's resolutions was to read more books of my choice. Being a student of English, I have to read quite a few books throughout the year, but most of them are not exactly fun to read. Therefore, I decided to read at least one book a month for pure pleasure. The first one that I've read this year is John Green's The Fault in Our Stars. It is one of the most popular books right now, so I just had to see what the deal is.
Roughly speaking, The Fault in Our Stars is a story about two teenagers who have cancer, but I didn't find it overly depressing. Even though it deals with kind of pessimistic and serious topics, the humour, witty and intelligent characters, and unexpected plot twists make the book an enjoyable read. I wouldn't rate it five stars, but it is definitely one of the best books I've read recently. There are tons of good quotes in there too, so keep your markers ready if you're one of those people who like to highlight passages. I am not one of them in case you're wondering. Not that there's something wrong with it. I just can't bring myself to write down things in an actual book, because to me, it seems like I'm destroying it. By the way, my favorite part of the book is the ad for the swing set - 'Lonely, vaguely pedophilic swing set seeks the butts of children'. I don't know if this is just me and my weird sense of humour, but I find this sentence hilarious! Please tell me I'm not the only one. Anyway, have you read this book? If so, how do you like it?
P.S. Did you know that the author - John Green - is a youtuber!? You can find his channel here.
