Essence Nail Polish Review: The Nudes
Sandra
Do you remember me talking about the new nail polishes from Essence's The Pastels range a few weeks ago? Today I have two more bottled goodies to show you! They belong to the other recent range of theirs called The Nudes.
Unlike The Pastels nail polishes, which are matte, these have a creamy, glossy finish - my fave! '07 Hope for Love' is a darker pink shade. It applies like a dream, requires two coats and has an average staying power. The only problem is that it doesn't look best with my skintone, so I might be passing this one on to someone else.
'05 Pure Soul', on the other hand, is here to stay. A light pink nude with a suble, barely visible irridescent shimmer will definitely be repacing my beloved Essie Fiji, which I have sadly just ran out of. Thankfully, there was no streakiness going on when I was applyin it, but it did require two to three coats. You should also know that it is not completely opaque. Even after three coats, my nail tips were still slightly visible, but since it is a classy, almost french mani type of a nude shade, it personally doesn't bother me. Have you tried any of The Nudes yourself? Are there any other shades I should check out?

NOTD: Essie Naughty Nautical
Sandra
![]() |
| Ring - Destination Pretty |
I'm still picking my nail wear from the blue spectrum, but this time, I went for a shade that is more me. Turquoise is a colour that I wear most often on my nails, however, I've never owned such a deep shade before. My other ones are either pastel or bright. Well, technically speaking, this isn't even my nail polish. I brought it back from California as a present for my sister, but the truth is, we share our nail polishes, so I consider it mine as well, tehe.
Essie is always spot on with the consistency of their nail polishes and 'Naughty Nautical' is no exception. It is not to thin and not too thick, it applies evenly, requires two coats for full opacity and stays chip free for almost a week. A+ for the quality! The shade itself is fabulous as well. Not only does it look exactly the same on the nails as it does in the bottle, but it also has a twist to it. Tiny little silver glitters! I myself am a big fan of the cream finish and am always sceptical about shimmer when it comes to nail polishes, but this shade won me over completely. It just looks right. Especially when the light hits it! It kind of reminds me of the glittering turquoise sea... Ahh, who wants to take me to the Maldives?

January Beauty Favourites
Sandra
January has come to an end, so you know what this means. It's time for new favourites videos! Today I have the beauty one for you, and surprisingly, it's not extremely long. Since I spent most of January in my bed recovering from a nasty cold or at a doctor's office trying to get my knee sorted out, I haven't been wearing much make-up, so I only have five product to talk about this month. You can find the list of products mentioned here in the description box.

NOTD: Essie Blanc (& Catrice Million Dollar Baby)
Sandra
A few months ago, my sister started obsessing over while nail polish and soon enough the obsession reached me as well. The only problem I had is that all the white nail polishes I'd tried were crap. They were streaky and never seemed to dry, so my manicures always became one big mess. When a few weeks ago, I was standing before the nail polish rack in the drugstore with my 50% off Essie coupon in my hands, deciding which shades to take home with me, Essie's Blanc was the obvious choice. Being a huge Essie fan, I only hoped that their white nail polish will live up to my expectations. And luckily, it has! It is not streaky, dries fast and lasts for a very long time on my nails. You still have to be a little bit careful with the application, because if you put on layers that are too thick, it will get smudged and the application won't be perfectly even. I apply either three thin coats or one thin and one a little bit thicker coat to get it perfect.
I've been wearing Blanc all the time for the past two weeks, but I wanted to make my nails look a little bit more festive this weekend, now that Christmas is almost here, so I picked up Catrice's Million Dollar Baby and applied it over the white nail polish. I think the manicure looks super cute! You really can't go wrong with glitters during this time of the year, right? I'm not sure if it's noticable in the photo, but Million Dollar Baby actually contains two types of glitters - very tiny gold ones and some bigger silver chunks. I find it very convenient, as the silver as well as gold jewellery go very nice with it.
P.S. You can get the ring that I'm wearing here at Destination Pretty, my very own online store. It's currenty 10% off! :)

NOTD: Essie For the Twill of It
Sandra
Last week I got some 50% off coupons for Essie product from our drugstore in the mail, so of course I had to take an advantage of the opportunity to go pick up some pretty bottled colours! Essie is by far my favourite nail polish brand, so I always have tons of their shades on my wishlist, but unfortunatelly, our local drugstore didn't have any of the shades I wanted to get. I didn't want to waste the coupon, though, so I decided to pick up a few others instead. The one you can see above is one of them. It's called 'For the Twill of It', and I think it came out as a part of this year's fall collection. I am not really a fan of a metallic finish when it comes to my nails, but since this was one of the very few unique colours on the stand, I just decided to go for it. The shade really is lovely and different, but let's just say that I think I'll stick to my usual cream finish from now on. Even though Essie nail polishes tend to last up to a week on my nails, this one is no different than any other metallic nail polish I've tried so far. It started chipping in only two days, and I also don't like how it accentuates my nail ridges. What do you think about this shade? Yay or nay? Are you loving the metallic nail polishes or are you on my team? :D

Sandra
1) Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette: There we go again, at Urban Decay they decided to come out with yet another Naked palette and of course the whole blogging and youtube world went absolutely mental. I am a proud owner of their original Naked palette, but I haven't been convinced by the second one or the Naked Basics. I feel like the shades in the Naked 2 are too cool-toned for my yellow complexion, and the ones in the Naked Basics are just nothing special. The Naked 3 one, however, has definitely caught my attention. At a first glance, I felt like it has way too much pink in it, but after seeing swatches online, I'm starting to like it more and more. Having said that, there were a few mentions that the lightest shades are a bit disappointing as far as the quality goes, so I'm not gonna order the palette just yet. I think I'll wait until I go to London, take a look at it in person and then decide whether or not it is worth the money.
2) Marc Jacobs Beauty The Lolita Palette: Another eyeshadow palette that sparked my interest is The Lolita by Marc Jacobs. Again, I'm not positive if this product will ever make its way into my make-up collection (I mean, I REALLY don't need any more neutral shades), but how gorgeous is it?! It carries the perfect mix of wearable neutrals, it looks very sleek and is also very compact, which makes it perfect for travelling.
3) Essie Leading Lady Nail Polish: I've been in a total Christmas mood for the past week and I cannot stop thinking about red. And glitters. Leading Lady from Essie has been on my wishlist since last year, and if this nail polish doesn't scream Christmas, they I don't know which one does.
4) Shu Uemura Heart & Flower S Curler: This is not the product that I desperately want for myself, but I think it would be perfect for my make-up artist kit. The thing is, you can't curl everyone's lashes with the curlers you normaly see around. Some people's eyes are just too small or too round or too something else and there is no way you can curl the lashes perfectly if you can't fit them all in that metal thingy. This is why I've been looking for a mini eyelash curler without the metal closure and well, I think I found it! I feel like with this one, I could get really close to the lash line and be able to curl every single section.
5) Kulan Cushion: When I saw this cushion, I literally freaked out. Why? Well, I've been wanting and looking for a sweater-like cushion for ages! I haven't spotted it once in my country, so I was determined to hunt it down last year when I went shopping to Austria, but I couldn't find anywhere either. You can only imagine how excited I was when I spotted it online on Urbanara a few days ago! I might just have to get this one. Oh, and I still really want the silver sequined cushion covers as well! This is another thing I was unable to hunt down last year.
6) Too Faced Joy to the Girls Set: Khm, yes, I know this is the third palette that's making an appearance on today's wishlist. But what can I do? Cosmetic companies definitely know what make-up addicts love getting for Christmas. This little baby carries quite a few lovely shades as well! You have your matte neutrals, your shimmery netrals and an odd baby blue colour. I'm not sure how it made its way into this palette, but I guess it makes it look a little bit more exciting. Not to mention that you're also getting their LashGASM Mascara in the set... Not bad, huh?

NOTD: Essie 'Bahama Mama' + Butter London 'Rosie Lee'
Sandra
Last weekend I dug out one of my favorite fall/winter nail polishes, Essie's 'Bahama Mama', and stole my sister's precious 'Rosie Lee' by Butter London to create the mani you can see below. I think it's safe to say that the Christmas nails season is now officially open at my house!

NOTD: Essie St Lucia Lilac
Sandra
Essie's St Lucia Lilac is the second one of the two Essie nail polishes I picked up when I was in LA. I thought it would be perfect for fall, because in the bottle the shade look grey with a slight lilac undertone. On my nails, however, it looks more like muted lilac with a subtle grey undertone, but let's not nitpick, haha. It still looks gorgeous and I've been wearing it non-stop for the past few weeks. I won't go into any details as far as the formula goes because it's identical to Bikini So Teeny, which I've blogged about two weeks ago. You can check out the full review here.

1) Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector: This is the lip gloss everyone seems to love, but of course I still haven't tried it myself. I'm very picky when it comes to lipglosses and to be honest, I just don't want to spend $22 on a lipgloss I might not even like in the end. The shades look really pretty and natural, though, so I think I would get a good use out of it if I liked the texture as well. What do you guys who have tried it think about it? And which shade is your favourite? The one that caught my attention is 05 Candy Shimmer.
2) Nars Creamy Concealer: I've been pretty content with my Collection Lasting Perfection concealer for the past year or so, but if you need as much of it as I do to cover your dark under eye circles, it can get a bit dry, creasy and cakey. That's why I really want to give this Nars Creamy Concealer a go. I've heard it's just as amazing with covering imperfections as the Collection one is, but more hydrating and just better overall.
3) Essence Longlasting Lipstick: Essence just came out with a new assortment for fall, and even though I've been avoiding drugstores since I came home from the States (blame my very needed spending ban), I still managed to spot an item I would love to have in my collection. I blame it on Sara, who blogged about their new longlasting lipstick in shade 07 Natural Beauty (here). It looks so pretty!
4) Hydraluron: Another currently raved about product. The moment Caroline Hirons mentioned it on her blog (here), all the British beauty addicts seemed to go crazy about it. After all the praises I've heard, I'm considering trying it out myself.
5) ghd Eclipse Straightener: A very unfortunate thing happened to me the moment I arrived on the other side of the pond. Yup, you guessed it. My straightener broke! I'm pretty sure that happened because my suitcase had been tossed around way too much on the way there. Now, I'm not one of those girls that cannot live without a straightener. I actually try to disregard my sometimes-weird waves and straighten my hair only a few times a month, but when I want my hair to look a bit nicer, a good straightener is essential. I have quite thick hair and some waves of mine are incredibly hard to tame, so I'm guessing one of those cheap ones won't do. A lot of people seem to love the ghd straighteners, so I'm thinking about buying one for myself. The latest, Eclipse version is ridiculously expensive, though. Which ones do you use? Do you have any other recommendations for me?
6) Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre: I'm STILL trying to combat the dry flakes on my skin and the latest moisturizing lotion on my to-try wishlist is this one. Apparently a lot of make-up artists swear on this particular product that can be used as a primer, a moisturizer and a make-up remover. Sounds interesting, huh?
7) Essie Nourish Me Base Coat: Just like the British beauty bloggers are currenly all over Hydraluron, the Slovenian bloggers are raving about Essie's Nourish Me base coat. They pretty much proclaimed it a miracle product, so I'm dying to try it out! I'm sick and tired of my nails peeling and breaking all the time. The only problem I have is that I can't find this baby ANYWHERE! Not in the drugstores, not online. Well, at least not on the sites that deliver to my country... -_-

NOTD: Essie Bikini So Teeny
Sandra
Today I have a review of one of the most popular Essie nail polishes for you - Bikini So Teeny. It's one of those shades I've been avoiding buying because EVERYONE has it, but when I saw it in person, I just couldn't resist.
But as much as I love this color and Essie nail polishes in general, I can't say I'm too crazy about this particular one. Don't get me wrong, I still love it to death, but there are a couple of things that bother me. The first thing is the brush. Now, I don't know if that's because I bought the nail polish in the States, but this brush is super thin! All my other Essie nail polishes (that were bought in the UK or Austria) have huge brushes with which I'm absolutely obsessed with, so seeing this tiny one was quite a let down.
And another thing I've noticed is that the formula is very liquidy and sheer. Again, not something that I've experienced with my other Essie nail polishes. I usually need to apply two coats and sometimes even one would be enough, but with this one three coats are pretty much obligatory. Other than that, it's a lovely nail polish. It doesn't streak and lasts pretty long on my nails. And of course, the colour is absolutely gorgeous! I'm still a bit confused, though. Are Essie nail polishes in the US completely different from the ones that are sold in Europe? Or did I just get a really weird bottle? I'm very curious now what kind of Essie nail polishes are sold in my country, as I haven't bought any here yet...

NOTD: Fiji
Sandra
I've been trying to capture the shade of this nail polish for months now, but I give up. My camera just doesn't want to pick up the slight pink undertone, which makes this nail polish super chic. Unfortunatelly, my swatch looks plain white, so please check google if you want to see the right colour. Ok, enough with the rant. Essie's Fiji is definitely one of my favourite shades. It is the perfect nude for my nails! It looks very classy and has all the positive features of Essie nail polishes. The shade is opaque with two coats, it lasts long on my nails and applies beautifully! It is one of those shades that you can wear all the time and also one of those that you end up repurchasing.
P.S. I've heard that Essie nail polishes are now finally avaliable in Slovenia! I don't know if this is good for me or not. I can totally see myself purchasing the whole stand and then going broke...

NOTD: Mint Confettis
Sandra
I have a very short post for you today, because I don't have much to say to be honest, haha. This is the mani I wore a few weeks ago. It includes my two favourite polishes right now - Essie's Mint Candy Apple and L'Oreal's Confettis top coat. I really like the look of this combination. I'll definitely wear it again! How do you like it?

NOTD: Spring Polka Dot Nails
Sandra
It is still very much winter where I live, but that doesn't stop me from wearing some cute spring colors on my nails. The season of pastel mint nail polish has officially started in my head, so you can expect lots of variations of mint nails on my blog during the next few months. This time, I spiced up Essie's Mint Candy Apple base with some dots using Avon's Apricot Mystery. How do you like the creation? It reminds me of Easter eggs, so it's perfect for the upcoming Easter holiday. By the way, you can check out my last year's adorable Easter nails here.

NOTD: Mint Candy Apple
Sandra
Mint Candy Apple is one of Essie's most popular shades and one of my most wanted nail polishes ever. I am so happy I finally got it! I love everything about it. The perfect pastel turquoise color with a hint of mint, the shine, the cream finish, the opaqueness... All I can say is, Essie, thank you for making my favorite color into a an awesome nail polish.

Nails of the Day: Chinchilly
Sandra
Say hello to my new favorite nail polish brand! It took me ages to get one of Essie's nail polishes since they're not sold in my country, but I finally had the opportunity to buy one whilst shopping in Austria. The nail polish that I got is in the color 'Chinchilly', which is one of the most popular Essie shades. They had tons of other amazing colors, but I decided to buy only one for starters, because I wasn't sure if they're worth the money. I kind of regret that decision now, though. This is literally the most amazing nail polish I've ever tried. I love everything about it! Thank god I'm going to London soon so I can get more shades. Which ones do I NEED to buy? :)
Anyway, let's now go the proper review. The brush of this nail polish is really big, which makes the application amazingly easy. I needed two thin coats for the polish to become opaque, but you can also get away with one thicker coat. The nail polish has surprisingly glossy finish, and lasted four days without chipping on my nails, which is my personal record, haha. As I have said, I couldn't be more satisfied with it. Any other (new) Essie fans here?

Nail of the Day: You Belong to Me
Sandra
I now finally have a nail polish in my favorite color, yipee! Isn't it pretty?! It's called 'You Belong to Me', and I am so glad that it now belongs to me. :D
I love almost everything about this polish. The only thing which is bugging me is that it starts chipping very quickly. It only last about two days on my nails.
P.S. Is it possible that this nail polish is a dupe for Essie's Mint Candy Apple? From what I have seen, they look pretty similar.
P.P.S. Don't forget to enter my giveaway! It closes in less than a week.
